It all started because of a little (then 3 year-old) boy diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma named Joey. Through talking with Joey's family we learned of some of the little publicized issues that affect families of children with cancer. It turns out that some of the best treatments for children with cancer are deemed "experimental" by the insurance companies. Though these treatments are in many cases the most affective option, insurance companies do not cover them due to their designated status. At that first fundraiser for Joey, the idea for Angels Among Us was born.

The name was decided on because of little Brooke and Molly who had earned their wings and went to heaven in November and December 2005. Later Skylar earned his wings May 22, 2006. So many children lose their lives every year due to this horrible disease called cancer. They are the true "Angels Among Us".

Angels Among Us incorporated in April 2006 and received 501c3 status in June of the same year (click on Angels Among Us Papers to see our filing information). Even though we are a young organization, we are very passionate about what we do, from our board of directors to every last volunteer, and we will be here for the long haul.
