Paige's Story
Our family can't thank you enough for the Angels Among Us program. You have been so helpful with every question and next step or stage. Paige was diagnosed 1-12-07. A happy healthy young girl until that day.
Paige had been at school first period gym class. Just a week after Christmas break. She became short of breath and went to the nurses office. She started to feel better and was sent back to class. I got a call from the nurse at work explaining what had happened. I hung up and called our family doctor. The nurse explained it was probably anemia and to make an appt. to see the doctor. Paige went a few days later to see our family doctor. She had some blood work done which immediately indicated a serious problem.
We were sent home to pack a bag and leave immediately for Childrens hospital in Omaha. After arriving Paige was admitted. The seriousness of her condition was becoming more apparent. Panic sets in. Rapidly I become physically sick with sympathy for Paige. After two days in the hospital the diagnoses was given ALL. Paige spent 12 days in the hospital. She had several fevers which kept her from leaving. The job of calling family and friends with the news was heart breaking. The next concerns were for my other children at home. They were scared for Paige and wanted mom and dad home. It was difficult in the beginning we didn't know a lot about what was happening. We were visited by the hospital social worker who soon acquainted us with the many programs we were eligible for.
As soon as I was contacted by Angels Among Us I knew from the start this would be so helpful to our family. Every time my cell phone rings and I see it's Cathy a smile comes over my face. You have been so kind and generous. Your time is much appreciated. Angels Among Us, you have been able to help us pay for some of our monthly expenses and help us find other programs that will help benefit Paige. It's these kinds of programs and people that give us the strength and hope to make it through these trials. THANK YOU ANGELS AMONG US!
